Stuart MacRae

Stuart MacRae was born in Inverness in 1976.

He studied Music at Durham University and then went to Guildhall School of Music and Drama.

He came to prominence when he composed Boreraig, a piece inspired by a deserted village on the Isle of Skye, and he was a finalist at the Young Composer’s workshop in 1996.

From 1999 to 2003 he was Composer in Association with the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra.

His 2004 piece Three Pictures was premiered by the Scottish Chamber Orchestra conducted by Oliver Knussen in 2005.

In 2005-6 he was the Edinburgh Festival/University of Edinburgh Creative Fellow. His opera The Assassin Tree was performed at the festival in 2006.

In 2006 – 7, Stuart held a residency in Bamberg, Germany at the Internationales K├╝nstlerhaus Villa Concordia in Bavaria.

2008 was to premier Gaudete at the BBC Proms by the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra.
